A ministry of the long walk

Wherever the road leads

Christ walking beside a weary traveler on a dusty country road, gently helping him carry his wooden cross
He does not walk ahead of you. He walks beside you.

Every StepEvery PlaceEverytime

Cross Journeys is a small ministry for anyone carrying something heavy along a long road. We walk together, pray honestly, and keep pointing one another toward the One who offered to carry it with us.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28

The invitation

You were never meant to carry it alone.

On the road out of Jerusalem, a man named Simon was pulled from the crowd and given a cross that was not his own. He is remembered for one thing: he kept walking. That is the whole shape of this ministry. We show up for the road other people are on.

Some of us come with grief. Some come with doubt, illness, a marriage in repair, or a faith that has gone quiet. Nobody is asked to arrive fixed. You are welcome exactly at the pace you are walking.

  • Every Step

Faith is walked, not watched. We keep company with people one pace at a time, on the ordinary roads they actually travel.

  • Every Place

A kitchen table, a hospital corridor, a country lane at first light. No place is too small to become holy ground.

  • Everytime

Morning, midnight, and every hour that feels like neither. The door stays open and the light stays on.

Our story

Started by three friends and a very long hill.

Cross Journeys began on a Saturday morning walk that none of us wanted to take. One of us had just lost a father. Another was carrying a diagnosis. We walked nine kilometres mostly in silence, and somewhere on the way home we realised we had been carried.

So we kept walking. Now a small, unremarkable community gathers each week to read scripture slowly, pray without pretending, and keep company with whoever turns up. No stage, no membership, no pressure to speak.

Walk with us

Three ways to share the road.

Come once, come weekly, come when it hurts too much to stay home. There is nothing to prepare and nothing to bring but yourself.

  • Tuesdays7:00 am

    The early road

A quiet hour of walking prayer before the day begins. Meet at the old stone bridge; we finish with coffee.

  • Saturdays9:00 am

    The long walk

Six to eight kilometres of conversation, silence, and scripture. Slower walkers always set the pace.

  • Twice a yearWeekend

    The pilgrimage

A two-day journey on foot with a small group, carrying one another’s stories along a road we do not walk alone.

Tell us you’re coming

No sign-up, no forms. A short email is enough, or simply turn up.

Reflections

For the hours when the road is quiet.

Three short readings to keep with you. Read them slowly, ideally outdoors, ideally with someone else.

Matthew 11:28-30

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

A yoke is made for two. The invitation was never to carry the weight alone and impress someone with your strength; it was to be joined.
